What Courts handle Civil Lawsuits in Tennessee?

In Tennessee a personal injury lawsuit can be filed in either General Sessions Court or Circuit Court.  General Sessions Court is the Small Claims Court and there is a cap on damages which can be obtained in General Session Court.

Circuit Court has no limitation on the amount which can be sued for,  and it is also the Court where your case can be decided by a Jury.  General Sessions Courts are heard by the Judge only,  there are no Jury Trials in General Sessions Court.
