What is Cephalopelvic Disproportion?

Cephalopelvic disproportion is where the size of mom's pelvis is not big enough for the baby to be able to be safely delivered. Cephalopelvic disproportion is also called CPD.

CPD is diagnosed when the doctor examines mom  and makes and estimate of her pelvic oupening based on her physical structure. The doctor will then estimate the weight of the baby to determine if Mom's pelvic opening is wide enough for the baby.  If a doctor diagnoses CPD,  the doctor should deliver the baby by cesarean section rather than risk attempting a vaginal delivery.
